Un-X the duplicate layer that you made in the beginning of this tutorial.
Apply an inverted mask to layer two:
Use the same method that you used to apply the mask to the first layer but,
this time be sure to tick the box that will "invert" the mask. If you loaded
the mask from disc, you are opting to "Invert Transparency,"
and if you added a "New Mask Layer," you will opt to "Invert Mask Data."
Merge group as in the previous step.
Duplicate this layer twice and merge the three layers.
Duplicate the layer you just merged and change its blend mode to Exclusion.
X out the heart-shaped layer, if you had it visible, and then "Merge," "Merge Visible."

Copy and paste the ship tube onto your image.
Resize by 50: Click on "Image," "Resize" and see the screen shot below for settings:
- it will still be in the perfect spot, the center of your image.

Click on "Image," and then "Mirror."
Change blend mode to Multiply and duplicate the layer twice.
X out the other two merged layers (the heart-shaped layer and the
heart outline layer) and "Merge," "Merge Visible."
Duplicate again and merge visible again.
Your ship should now be solid black.

Click on the heart-shaped layer (bottom layer) in your layer palette to active it.
Add a selection border of 1:
Click on "Selections," then on "Select all," and then on "Float."
Click on "Selections," then on "Defloat"
Click on "Selections," then on "Modify," and then on "Select selection borders," and type in "1,"
tick "outside" and "anti-alias:"
Click on the middle layer to activate it, and add a new raster layer:
Click on the highlighted symbol

then click "OK"
Set a silver gradient in your foreground or use the one I supplied as
either a gradient or a pattern. If you pasted it into your gradients folder,
then it will be available in your gradients' image menu. If you have it open in
your work area, it is available in your image menu of patterns.
Flood fill the selection border.
Add a Gaussian blur of 3 to the silver border:
"Adjust," "Blur," "Gaussian blur," type in "3"

X out the heart and ship layers and merge visible.
Your image should now look like this:
